On  Tuesday I was supposed to meet a friend on the European side of  Istanbul. To get there from where I live on the Asian side I take a  train, and a ferry, and a funicular with lots of walking in between.

It's always an adventure getting to the islands from our home as there is no direct route.  From the base, we get on a bus to Yalova.  From Yalova we get on a seabus to Kartal.  Once in Kartal we get on a ferry to Heybeliada.
